Duralumin (Obsolete)

A term formerly applied to the class of age-hardened aluminum copper alloys containing manganese, magnesium or silicon. Discovered in 1906, it was originally made only at the company Dürener Metallwerke in Düren, Germany (hence it’s name – a contraction of Dürener and aluminum). After heat treatment and aging, these alloys are comparable to soft steel in strength. In it’s normal state, duralumin alloys are relatively soft, ductile and workable.
